In West Bengal, India, there is a national park, tiger reserve, and biosphere reserve called the Sundarbans National Park. It is a piece of the Sundarbans on the Ganges Delta and is close to Bangladeshs Sundarban Reserve Forest. To the southwest of Bangladesh is where it is situated. The delta is one of the biggest habitats for Bengal tigers and is heavily covered with mangrove woods. Numerous bird, reptile, and invertebrate species live there as well, including saltwater crocodiles. The current Sundarban National Park was designated as a wildlife sanctuary in 1977 and the central portion of the Sundarban Tiger Reserve in 1973. It was designated a national park on May 4, 1984. In 1869, the Sundarbans came under the purview of the first forest management division. Under the Forest Act of 1865 (Act VIII of 1865), a significant percentage of the mangrove forests were designated as conserved forests in 1875. The following year, the remaining portions of the forests were designated as reserve forests, and the forest, which had previously been under the supervision of the civil administration district, was transferred to the Forest Department. In 1879, a forest division—the fundamental unit for managing and administering forests—was established, with its administrative centre located in Khulna, Bangladesh. The initial management strategy was created for the years 1893–1898. It was excluded from the census in 1911 and described to as a piece of unexplored waste land. From the Hugli Rivers mouth to the Meghna Rivers mouth, it was about 266 kilometres (165 miles) long, and Khulna and Bakerganj, two of the 24 Parganas three populated districts, complemented it on the interior. 16,900 square kilometres (6,526 square miles) was considered to be the total area (including water). There were numerous tigers and other wild animals in the jungle, which was submerged in water. Reclamation efforts have not been particularly fruitful. River channels and creeks cut across the Sundarbans in all directions, and some of them provided water connectivity for both native and steamships throughout the Bengal region. Numerous threatened aquatic creatures, such as the Irrawaddy and Ganges River dolphins, as well as the greatest population of tigers can be found in the Sundarbans. Along with the king cobra and sizable populations of the rare river terrapin, which was once thought to be extinct, the site is home to an exceptional number of threatened reptiles. Olive riley, green, and hawksbill sea turtles can lay their eggs on the property. The Tachypleus gigas and Carcinoscorpius rotundicauda, two of the four species of the exceedingly primitive horseshoe crab, are found here. Waterfowl abound in the Sajnakhali region, which is designated as an Important Bird Area and is crucial for migratory birds. PARK SPECIFIC INFORMATION The only way to navigate the park is by boat, using one of the many pathways the areas numerous flowing rivers have created. M.V. Chitrarekha and M.V. Sarbajaya are two local boats or vessels run by the West Bengal Tourism Development Corporation. The only government-approved hotel in the area, Sunderban Tiger Camp offers on-land lodging as well as cruise safaris. They run scheduled departures and private tours out of Kolkata all year round. Visitors are able to visit the Sudhanyakali Watch Tower, Dobanki Watch Tower, Burirdabri Watch Tower, Netidhopani Watch Tower, Sajnekhali Bird Sanctuary, Bhagabatpur Crocodile Project (a crocodile breeding farm), Sagar Island, Jambudweep, Haliday Island, and Kanak as an alternative to participating in boat safaris to see the wildlife.
