Bandhavgarh National Park, situated in the Umaria district of Madhya Pradesh, India, is a wildlife sanctuary renowned for its rich biodiversity and thriving population of Bengal tigers. Covering an area of approximately 105 square kilometers (40 square miles), this pristine wilderness is nestled amidst the Vindhya mountain range. The parks name is derived from the ancient Bandhavgarh Fort, perched atop a hillock within its boundaries, which holds significant historical importance. Bandhavgarh is one of the most popular national parks in India and is known as a vital hub for tiger conservation. In recognition of its conservation efforts, it was declared a Tiger Reserve in 1993 under the Project Tiger initiative, which aims to protect and preserve the endangered Bengal tiger and its habitat. The parks topography comprises mixed forests, grasslands, and numerous perennial streams, offering a diverse and suitable habitat for a wide array of flora and fauna. The centerpiece of Bandhavgarhs wildlife is undoubtedly its majestic Bengal tigers. The parks dense forests and abundant prey species create an ideal environment for these magnificent predators to thrive. Although sightings of tigers can never be guaranteed, Bandhavgarh boasts a relatively high density of these elusive big cats, making it one of the best places in India to catch a glimpse of them in their natural habitat. The tigers of Bandhavgarh are known for their distinctive appearance, with some individuals exhibiting a lighter coat color, often referred to as "white tigers." Apart from tigers, Bandhavgarh National Park is also home to various other wildlife species. Leopards, though more secretive than tigers, roam the forests, and their presence adds to the parks allure. Other predators include wild dogs, hyenas, and jungle cats. The herbivore population is equally diverse, featuring spotted deer, sambar deer, barking deer, Indian bison (gaur), and wild boar.
